Editor's travel guitar build project uses carbon fibre shock!

Yes indeed, as a little light relief I thought I'd let you know that I am building an acoustic travel guitar in my garden shed.

Using 'The Twiglet' plans purchased from John Anthony Guitars (http://www.johnanthonyguitars.com), and special tonewood, such as rosewood, cherry, spruce and walnut I've embarked on a project born out of the frustration of being able to find and buy a left-handed travel guitar. Travel guitars are so called because they are much smaller and narrower and therefore more portable.

The exciting technological bit is that I've introduced some 10mm diameter carbon fibre rod to strengthen the neck in the form of a non-adjustable truss rod.

This required the routing of a 11mm wide channel to accommodate the rod, plus copious amounts of Araldite adhesive. The result will hopefully be a very stable and solid neck whilst under tension from the guitar strings.

At present, I've completed the entire necks and bodies for a left- and right-handed guitar. All that's left to do is affix the bridge/saddle, join the body to the neck and set it all up. Watch this space.
