Each of the five materials is designed to overcome a specific issue faced by the component manufacturers and OEMs, whether that’s a desire to reduce part weight or remove hazardous materials from the workplace:
- Flax/Epoxy Prepreg: A low-density prepreg to reduce the cost, weight and NVH of carbon components, as replacing some carbon plies with flax creates a hybrid structure that has 15% lower cost, 7% lower weight and 58% higher vibration damping.
- Flax/Bioresin Prepreg: A lightweight moulding material for load floors and parcel shelves typically giving a 15% weight reduction for load-carrying full-span floors and parcel shelves, compared to existing materials.
- Flax/PP LFT: A lightweight natural fibre moulding compound for automotive interiors, typically giving a 15-20% weight saving over conventional Glass/PP LFT parts, together with improved NVH damping.
- Carbon/PA Tape: A high-performance thermoplastic tape for preform manufacture, local stiffening and part production, where selective reinforcement of an LFT moulding with Carbon/PA tape provides a 200% increase in bending stiffness.
- Glass/PFA Prepreg: A fire-retardant prepreg for rail interiors, shown to meet EN45545-HL3, but without the hazardous emissions of conventional phenolic resin systems.
NetComposites is inviting open discussions with potential users of these materials, either at the JEC World show or in 1:1 meetings, to fully understand their specific interest and to focus the next steps in these materials developments. Please email
