Multicomp conference is set to bring together researchers, designers, manufacturers and end-users to showcase the latest developments in hybrid composite solutions within high value sectors such as automotive, aerospace, rail and energy.

The conference, which will explore the opportunities, challenges and trends of employing these materials, will take place on 14-15 June 2017 at the Nottingham Conference Centre, UK.

It is often the case that the optimum balance of performance and cost is obtained through the use of multimaterial assemblies of composites, metals and polymers. Hybrid material structures that exploit the principle of using 'the right material in the right place' provide new design opportunities, and are often a stepping stone to the more widespread adoption of high performance materials such as composites.

Sue Keighley, NetComposites conference co-ordinator, explained: “We’re really excited to introduce this conference which will explore this hot topic. The conference will not only highlight the opportunities and challenges of hybrid material structures, but also provide a forum for companies and individuals to discuss the latest trends in hybrid composite structures and identify new opportunities for products within their business areas.”

Papers are being accepted before 17th February 2017, and topics will include:

  • Optimised material selection for hybrid structures.

  • Joining of composites to other materials.

  • High-performance adhesives.

  • Design for lightweighting.

  • Design for cost optimisation.

  • Multi-functional design.

  • Industrial assembly of multi-material structures.

  • Condition monitoring of multi-material structures.

  • Repair of multi-material structures.

  • Disassembly and end-of-life management of multi-material structures.
