Interface Polymers and specialty chemicals and pharmaceutical manufacturing company Porus Laboratories, based in Hydrabad, India, have announced plans to scale up production of Polarfin di-block additives to commercial quantities by mid-2023.

Interface Polymers is a spin-out from the University of Warwick, established to commercialise its Polarfin plastic additive technology.

Polarfin additives modify the properties of common plastics enabling them to stick to and mix with other materials. The technology is set to transform the performance and cost competitiveness of polyolefin-based materials across a wide range of market applications in the packaging, construction, agriculture, automotive and recycling sectors.

Ross Baglin, CEO of Interface Polymers commented: “This is a great step forward for our company. We are extremely impressed with the speed and efficiency that Porus Laboratories have shown in scaling up our technology in a very short time frame. This will now give us the capability to supply the polymer industry with the much-needed solutions for mechanical recycling of mixed plastic waste on an ongoing basis.”

Srinivasan Namala, CEO of Porus Laboratories added: “We are very pleased to be selected as the scale-up partner for this exciting new technology and to be given the opportunity to leverage our ever-growing chemical manufacturing expertise and assets.”

Polarfin is an internationally patented technology and registered trademark of Interface Polymers.
