Hexcel to present new technologies at Multicomp 2017

At Multicomp 2017, taking place at Nottingham Conference Centre on 14-15 June, Hexcel’s Chris Harrington will be presenting new composite technologies for the high volume manufacture of CFRP/metal hybrid structures in the automotive industry.

Multicomp is a new conference organised by NetComposites to bring together researchers, designers, manufacturers and end-users to showcase the latest developments in hybrid composite solutions within high value sectors such as automotive, aerospace, rail and energy.

Hybrid components that combine composites and metal in the same part are becoming increasingly popular in vehicle designs, allowing engineers to combine the best properties of each material in a single lightweight hybrid design.

However, a number of challenges have to be overcome, which Chris Harrington will describe in his presentation before explaining how Hexcel has developed a new fastcuring carbon fibre/epoxy prepreg for the automated production of prepreg stacks, and a new film adhesive, Redux 677.

These products work in conjunction to provide an optimised solution for the automated manufacturing of automotive CFRP hybrid structures.

Chris Harrington is section leader R&T at Hexcel, based at the company’s new Innovation Centre in Duxford, UK.
