Composite Fibrelite Multiport Containment System approved by CARB

OPW has announced that its composite multiport sump system has been approved by the California Air Resources Board or CARB as it’s often referred to, one of the two primary standards for vapour recovery in the US.

Multiport systems are used to increase ease of fuel delivery on petrol station forecourts. Two small covers are located within the larger manhole cover which can be removed in seconds to insert the two hoses necessary for fuel delivery and vapour recovery.

Composites provided an ideal solution for forecourt access covers. Their light, strong, non-corrosive properties allow them to withstand heavy loads (like trucks) while still being safely and quickly manually removed when access is required. Corrosion resistance is also key, as water and fuel (especially prevalent in petrol station) cause corrosion, breaking the watertight seal around covers, allowing water ingress into sumps over fuel tanks.

Charles Liebal, product manager for OPW Retail Fueling said: “OPW has combined the very best of its industry-leading spill-containment and overfill-protection products, along with world-class Fibrelite composite technology, into a single multi-benefit multiport that delivers tank-top-to-grade containment and protection. The result is the industry’s best defence against water intrusion into underground storage tanks while providing increased peace of mind for the site operator.”
