Editor's comment: An event to inspire

The third International Composites Summit (ICS) has finally arrived. Taking place on September 6-7, at the Marshall Arena, Milton Keynes, ICS has become the premier platform for cost-effective and sustainable composites business in the UK.

The event brings together influential industry leaders and researchers, as well as forward-thinking innovators from across the composites sector. The forums will explore the latest themes and hot topics covering key sector challenges and opportunities. These include circularity, exploring strategic global opportunities, navigating the political landscape for manufacturing, and trade-focused panel comprising Q&A sessions with industry experts.

It is often said that variety is the spice of life, and this sentiment can be applied to what many tradeshows and conferences spin us every year. Don’t get me wrong, it’s great to meet old faces, catch up, press the flesh and recount fond memories, but these events have a real responsibility to provide fresh opportunities to meet new and potentially lucrative customers – the kind that they wouldn’t normally expect to see at these events. Opportunities that can help initiate healthy synergies between different manufacturing sectors.

And the ICS will arguably offer the best opportunity to discover more about someone - or something - you didn’t know existed. It is a chance to look over someone else’s shoulder and satisfy the remit of gathering an eclectic and diverse mix of the UK and international composites sector.

Hopefully, ICS will deliver on its promise to exhibitors and visitors alike, allowing them to experience both new customers and new products. ICS co-director, Sue Halliwell reckons this year promises to be a transformative event for the industry that will inspire meaningful collaborations and solutions for a sustainable future. I wish joint organisers Composites UK and Fluency Business Group the very best of luck. An industry awaits!

Editor's comment: Weather with you

My work office feels unusually cold. As I type this, the BBC weather says it’s 10˚C outside. Hmm, is that typical for the end of April? Anyway, our landlord has deemed that with Spring now in the air, it’s time to turn off the heating and save money. This presents a challenge typing when I can’t feel my fingers.
